Sandisk Ultra Dual USB 3.0 16 GB Thumb Drive

Now this is really random. I've recently been hunting for a USB 3.0 thumb drive because I needed it for a project.
Now , it is an understatement to say that flash drive has gotten a lot more affordable in the last few years. A 128mb USB 1.0 used to cost more than 100 bucks. Now an 8GB (8000MB) USB 2.0 cost less than 12 bucks!
I was cracking my head really hard to decide between a Sandisk Ultra Fit and a Sandisk Ultra Dual. To make things easier to understand, a drive's write speed is how fast you could copy something from a computer to your drive, whereas a read speed is the other way round. If you are a spy and you need to copy something from a laptop like your life depends on it, then WRITE speed is what you are looking for.
My aim was to get a USB 3.0 thumb drive with a sweet balance between a fast write speed and cost. A USB 2 would have been fine but I needed something that could copy files lightning quick without costing me an arm or a leg.
I was considering the Sandisk Ultra Dual USB 3.0 16 GB thumb drive which offers both a USB 2.0 OTG connector, and a USB 3.0 connector at the other end. This is actually an update to the Ultra Dual drive that was released last year, which was USB 2.0 for both connectors. There are no good quality reviews on the Ultra Dual USB 3.0 at present.
The Ultra Fit had really good reviews and it's really small and has great transfer speed while the Ultra Dual is slightly bigger, with no available benchmarks but has an OTG connector which would have been very useful for my smartphone.
Price wise, the Ultra Dual just cost a paltry RM 7 more at RM40. The safe choice would have been to choose the former and get the speed that I want.
I took a gamble with the Ultra Dual.

This drive came in a simple box. No fancy accessories or lanyard etc. I really like that this is a capless design so you wouldnt lose anything there. The case is made of plastic but it doesn't feel cheap. It's shaped like a rectangular cube, and you would just need to slide out whichever end of the connector that you are using. Portable and practical. Exactly what I've needed.

Benchmarks (even Sandisk doesn't comment on the write speed!) are as follows:

Average read speed:135.83 MB/s
Average write speed:89.30 MB/s

4k Read Speed: 16.8 MB/s
4k Write Speed: 2.26 MB/s

Boy, am I glad. The Ultra Fit has an average read speed of 102.7 MB/s and write speed of 43.63 MB/s.The Ultra Dual actually beats the Ultra Fit in the benchmark :)

There is an optional android app for you to manage your files if you are into those sort of thing..

If there is anything that I wish that Sandisk improves upon, more accessories wouldn't hurt.

In summary, I think this drive is worth getting for it's price and speed. Good hunting! Official website
